The 3rd Annual “Autos & Oysters” Car Show on Saturday, October 28 in downtown Apalachicola will display an impressive selection of vehicles, from vintage to late model, and everything in between. Cars will line up on Water Street at Riverfront Park and on Avenue E. Area residents are encouraged to participate.
The show will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., immediately followed by the awards ceremony. Plaques will be awarded for the Top 50, Sponsor’s Choice, Greatest Club Participation, Greatest Distance Traveled and Best of Show. The head judge will be J.C. O’Steen of Tallahassee. O’Steen has judged several major national and international events and owns an impressive collection of vintage cars and motorcycles. Logistical support and volunteer judges will be provided by the local Forgotten Coast Cruisers car club.
At Riverfront Park, 13 Mile Seafood will serve fresh oysters and Oyster Radio will provide music. Hotdogs, hamburgers, and locally brewed Oyster City beer will also be available. Raffles will take place throughout the day. Door prizes have been donated by several downtown businesses including Grady Market, Apalach Outfitters, Bowery Station, Bowery Art Gallery, Oysterbones, Betsy’s Sunflower, Hole in the Wall, the Station, the Tin Shed, and Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. In addition, there will be a 50/50 raffle and a raffle for a bicycle donated by Kevin Hand of Apalachicola Community Bicycle.
If you’d like to enter your vehicle in the show, registration is open from 9:00 a.m. to noon on the day of the event, and the cost is $20. You can also pre-register by mail by downloading the form from our website, www.autosandoysters.com. Admission to the show is free to the public.
The car show is a downtown economic vitality initiative by Apalachicola Main Street to stimulate the economy in the off season. It was recognized as a Florida Main Street Outstanding Special Event by the Florida Secretary of State earlier this year. The event is supported by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, Visit Florida, Tallahassee Magazine, the Franklin County Tourist Development Council, Duke Energy, and WCTV.
