A plaque dedication ceremony honoring Dr. Alvan Chapman, a distinguished 19th-century botanist, will be held at the entrance to the Chapman Botanical Garden in Apalachicola on Thursday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m. The public is invited to visit the garden for this event held on the first day of spring.
Following the ceremony, a light reception will be held and the Orman House, adjacent to the garden, will host a free open house. Visitors are welcome to explore the antebellum house museum and see what’s new in its collections of 19th century furnishings, clothing, and artifacts.
The Orman House State Park is located at 177 5th Street in Apalachicola. Limited parking is available at the 5th Street entrance. Additional parking is available near the Veterans Memorial Plaza located at 230 Market Street, just 4 blocks north of Centennial Bank in downtown Apalachicola.
The event is free and open to the public.
