Interactive Map: Roper's Lecture Locations in Britain and Ireland
By 1844, Roper records he had spoken in Britain and Ireland 2,000 times and his narrative sold over 25,000 copies, including 5,000 in Welsh. The map records just under 1,000. Most of the locations come from the 1848 edition of his slave narrative, but nearly 200 are from mining the Victorian press to record adverts and speeches. Touch the screen to zoom in and see the cities where he gave speeches advocating for the end of slavery. Map courtesy of Dr. Hannah-Rose Murray.
